BmiBaby have added eight new routes which means a combined total of twenty four destinations on offer from the airline at East Midlands. It is considered a bold move by Bmibaby considering the downturn airlines have been experiencing in recent times.

Crawford Rix of BMI spoke of the airlines long term commitment to the region and the important services that they offered the local area. He finished by saying that the airline was “here to stay”

The extra flights will mean an extra three hundred and fifty thousand passengers. Ski travelers will also be pleased to hear the news that this year there will be no extra charges for carrying winter sports gear. Rix confirmed that all snowboards and skis could travel for free. He also pointed out that there were still no card fees when booking.

EasyJet Geneva East Midlands Route

Easyjet made two announcements last Thursday the first of which means the closure of their route from East Midlands Airport to Geneva Airport. The Airline has decided to cease all operations at East Midlands coming into effect early next year.

The news will came as a blow for many in the area who relied on the flight for ski holidays as well as numerous business travelers who will now have to find another airline.

The airline has cited rising passenger duties as the reason however rumours abound that that they have struggled to keep up with rival airline Ryanair. BMI Baby may now end up offering extra flights to Geneva in order to fill the gap left by Easyjet. Officials were quick to confirm that no flights would be affected until early next year.

Easy jet also announced that there would be a twenty percent cut in their Luton Airport services. It remains to be seen exactly what routes this will affect. High airport fees were again cited with the airline now looking for cheaper bases.
